Yes punters, I've joined the Cowra MCRC, got my MA license, arranged ambulance cover and am hot-to-trot for some dirt track this year. First meet is in two weeks.
We'll all soon know whether a 49 year-old still bounces or shatters into a million pieces. Either way, it's going to be entertaining. Pictures at eleven. ;D

Good stuff Whitey, been thinking about doing the same thing myself for a year or two but as i have a few years on you my main concern also is will i shatter into a million bits first time i have a big off.
I can just imagine getting higsided off the DR after getting the rear wheel sliding at Nepean or some where.
Let me know when your doing it and would be keen to come down for a look. Although 2 weeks time is about SBK time and im off the the Island for a week.

Have been toying with a similar idea for a while and have a standing offer to ride a dirt track sidecar once it is track ready and will likely be giving that a go with my mate Tommy the sucker on the side. As John says, give us a yell when and I will try to get out for a look see. Garry

Thanks guys. With the big 5-0 approaching, I figured it was now or never.
The first club day is Feb 21st, but I'm going to skip that meet. First run will be March 15th - just a practice day, then it's racing on March 29th. Feel free to come out and watch me do battle with the wily old veterans in the Over 35's class. And make sure you bring cameras to capture the carnage !
stretch, I had a discussion about high-sides with the club pres last year. Apparently, they're not very common in dirttrack. Usually, the backend just swings out too far and you lowside. Hmmm, hope he wasn't pulling my leg !
Gaz, what club would that be with ? There'd be some crusty old bastards in that crowd I'll bet ! Tommy the Sucker... LOL !!! Anyhow... just do it man !

If it happens it would be at Nepean but the sidecar is still under construction as Tommy gets time amongst his other racing (he does Speedways, Road Race, MotoCross and Dirt Track) and still finds time to work Circuitbreaker ride days, do some car marshalling for CAMS, Eastern Creek ridedays and then pickup or marshall most NSW based road race meets. Oh yeah, he also coaches the juniors. Garry

Whitey, Yeah i am aware of that fact but have seen highsides when the sliding rear wheell hits a rut in the track and as my ability is a lot less than what it was 40 years ago, i know what will happen.
I was very involved in the dirt track scene 20 years ago when living in Queanbeyan when my 2 sons and daughter were all racing junior dirt track. Some of the names my eldest son raced against included, Gobert, Pitt, Ashkenazi, Mladin, Parkes, West etc etc.

March 29, Woodstock speedway? Cowra Yep, the track is only 1km outside the town of Woodstock. Easily found on google maps if you select the satellite view. If anyone is keen to come out on the day, I can post up a route from Taralga to Woodstock on mostly dirt roads.

I have a month worth of holidays so I intend to come out for the day and then head somewhere else, no idea where but somewhere. So, nearer the day, post up that route if possible please mate. Gaz

If it is happenning I need to look for accomodation ;D Yes mate, it's happening. ;D Practice on the 15th and race day on the 29th. My little caravan will be fully booked if the family come down, but you're welcome to (dare I say it) camp on my property. No need to bring a tent or sleeping bag, I have them at the property already. For something more luxurious, there's cabins at Wyangala Waters... www.wyangalawaters.com.au/accom_info.htmI'm not sure whether the pub at Woodstock offers accommodation. It's very close to the track though, so give them a call... publocation.com.au/pubs/nsw/woodstock/royal-hotelOtherwise, any number of motels and caravan parks in Cowra - about 30 mins ride from Woodstock... www.jasons.com/Australia/New-South-Wales/Cowra/accommodation/

This weekend's practice day has been cancelled due to lack of water. Yep, the drought continues in inland NSW !

Bad luck mate, just means that on Saturday you can rock out to Nepean and practice or watch this fat b*stard try to ride a sidecar (and maybe even jump on the side). Yes, it is happening unless rained out or the sidecar boys can it. Garry
